The Triangle chapters of the Association for India's Development and the Cricket Club @ NC State jointly conducted the inaugural AID Cricket Cup on September 27 and 28 this year. The event raised funds for the Duke chapter of AID, to support grassroots developmental projects in India.
The tournament featured 16 teams from the Triangle area, with 27 games in two days full of non-stop cricketing action, at the Miller grounds in NC State. The teams were divided into 4 groups, and one team from each group advanced to the semifinals. The first semifinal saw the Hell Razors defeat the RTP Cricket Club in a low scoring game, that featured exceptional bowling by both the teams. The local boys from the Cricket Club of NCSU defeated the Cary Chillies in the second semifinal to setup a interesting showdown with the HellRazors, who themselves were former CC of NCSU players.
Exceptional batting by the openers, Samay (34) and Parth (29*) saw the Hell Razors put up a mammoth total of 68 in their alloted 8 overs. The NSCU top-order ran into problems early in their inning, thanks to some tight bowling by the Samay and Parth. The NCSU team lost wickets periodically and in the end the Hell Razors cruised to a comfortable 34 run victory. Samay was adjudged the man of the match, with Parth receiving the batsman of the series honors. Keyur S, who bagged 5 wickets in the semis & finals, received the best bowler of the series award. The awards were distributed by the chief guest of honor and event sponsor, Mr. Mihir Chakraborty.
The tournament would not have been possible without the support of our other co-sponsors, Bombay Grille, VGS India mart, Woodlands, Triangle India Market, and Tower. Special mention needs to be made of Anirudh and the Cricket Club of NCSU for providing ample support to AID in coordinating the event for both the days. The success of the tournament was a testimony to the efforts of everyone involved in coming together to further AID's cause for development of the underprivileged in India.
